Public education, innovation required to avoid power blackouts in Canada

           Governments and the utility industry must do more to educate the public – including First Nations – about the urgent need for new electric infrastructure to avoid future power blackouts in Canada, industry leaders say.

           The industry also needs to quickly boost investment in new technologies to revolutionize how power is transmitted and distributed, said members of an industry panel discussing “Challenges Facing Emerging Power Systems,” a webcast and teleconference in Calgary presented in August by the Canadian Centre for Energy Information.
